Frequently Asked Questions
Is the geolocation data 100% accurate?
IP geolocation is generally very accurate at the country and region level. However, city-level accuracy can vary and should be considered an approximation, often pointing to the nearest data center or ISP hub rather than the exact physical location.
Can I look up IPv6 addresses?
Yes, the tool supports both IPv4 (e.g., 8.8.8.8) and IPv6 (e.g., 2001:4860:4860::8888) addresses.
What is an ASN?
ASN stands for Autonomous System Number. It is a unique identifier globally assigned to a network or group of networks operated by a single organization (like an ISP or a large tech company). It helps identify who "owns" or manages the network routing for that IP.
Why does "My IP" show a different location than where I am?
If you are using a VPN, proxy, or corporate network, the IP address exposed to the internet will be that of the VPN server or corporate gateway, not your actual physical location. Cellular networks can also route traffic through hubs in different cities.
